The GA 2009 Workshop: Networking the NCCR QP

Popular web-based networking sites have emerged that are built upon different languages, countries, and interests. These forums have given rise to new ways to share information and to communicate and provide new opportunities for researchers, students and start-ups. While there is a difference between social and professional networking sites, either type can affect - for better or worse - professional reputation and career development. The workshop outlined various issues to consider whether you are using these networks directly or not.

The purpose of the workshop was not to convince members of the NCCR QP to use social or professional on-line networking, although we are forming a LinkedIn group. Rather, the focus was on suggesting certain precautions in protecting your  professional reputation on networking platforms or professional forums. The key elements of the workshop presentation appear below and a pdf file of the full text is also available.
